Great Interview with Jim Litchfield, Reno’s Whitewater Park Visionary on Reno and it’s Discontents

Posted on March 12th, 2007 in Branding, Entrepreneurship, Outdoors, Reno with 4 Comments

Myrna over at Reno and its Discontents posted up Part I of a Part 1-N? interview with Jim Litchfield. It’s a great interview and follows up to some of the discussions Robert and Josh had with him back in their Episode #20 podcast.

We’ll look back twenty years from now at the whitewater park and recognize it as the catalyst of Reno accepting it’s “adventure destination” brand positioning. It’s also the and a positive attitude towards downtown redevelopment. This has been a provate/public social adventure to say the least!
It seems that the uptake in private and public investment in downtown was timed to the whitewater park completion.

Myrna, thanks for the great read. Jim, thanks for the vision. Can you extend that vision all the way thru Sparks and on out to Pyramid Lake? What about a barbless catch-and-release flyfishing park mixed in there, too?

[...] Myrna’s second interview with Jim is up. While it’s a great interview, of concern is the lack of transparency on the secret plans to host the World Extreme Tubing Championships. I failed to mention this in my recent post. Roadhntr commented: “7000 tons of concrete in the river for a few river fairies and you guys are ready to give Litchfield the key to the city.” Well…yeah. Why not. It’s not like we’re giving the guy keys to ben’s Discount Liquor. [...]
